Sod Farm
The
sod farm your new turf comes from is as important as the grass itself. That’s why we have always paid close attention to the local farmers who grow and harvest the sod we bring to you. We select them for their experience, their understanding of growing methods, and their reputation for producing only the top quality turf grasses:

We serve homeowners, builders, landscapers, sports field managers, golf courses and more . They choose us because we provide grass with stability. It establishes and gets strong quickly because it has been grown well by a specialist farmer. We maintain only the species that grow aggressively, to give that “instant lawn”, ready playing field or to stop erosion fast.
The advantage of growing locally : Your turf will stay moist and cool because no sod farm is a long distance from our service area. Sod is usually harvested 10 to 18 months after it was planted, and never before it is ready to thrive. It has been properly fertilized, frequently watered and carefully mowed. It is harvested only after you have placed your order, using specialized equipment, and precision cut. The sod farm cuts it the day installation is planned, to further ensure its health and robust growth.
That’s why we ask for 24 hour notice when you place and order . Sod is harvested when the ground temperature is the coolest, which means it is cut out of the ground early each morning, often before 6am. Placing your order the day before you install it makes certain your order will leaves the sod farm in peak condition and ready when you are. It guarantees the sod is fresh and ready to root in your prepared soil.
You should install the same day it is harvested . You will always hear us recommend that you lay sod on the same day as it is harvested. Otherwise it starts to dry out rapidly. In addition, the sod farm has been fertilizing in the weeks prior to harvesting. This causes a build up of heat if the grass sits on the pallet too long.
The shelf life of sod depends on the time of year it's harvested . It’s always best to install sod in spring or fall. This gives it time to grow strong before the heat of summer kicks in. Sod can be put in during the summer months, as long as water is plentiful. Since installing sod on a playing field is a big job, it’s best to order larger cuts from the sod farm. They are made without separation or tearing, which enables very sizeable installations in one day, with less manpower.
You can order various shapes: cut into short squares, rectangles; a long roll that is approximately one square yard, or big rolls that can be as large as 25-30 square yards.
